River Bend LodgeFlanked by the Zuurberg Mountains, River Bend Lodge is situated within a 17 000 ha private concession in the Addo Elephant National Park. Here you can watch herds of elephants feeding a short distance away, or listen to the songs of some 250 bird species. Guests experience personalized game drives into the mountains and discover varying vegetation from thick forested valleys, open savannah plains to hillsides rich in Fynbos. This is a small, intimate Lodge, with only eight suites, tastefully designed, and inviting. All the suites are air conditioned and equipped with ceiling fans, electronic safes, mini bar, satellite TV, hair dryer and bathroom, en suite bath and shower. Enjoy breakfasts through to late-night nibbles, with each individually plated dish, created from the finest locally grown ingredients. The cuisine at River Bend is the perfect blend of traditional and Pan-African world fusion, which, combined with the finest South African wines, makes for a gastronomic delight. Meals are not restricted to the dining room and guests are encouraged to make use of one the verandas, or to arrange a picnic to enjoy on a game drive. Romantic candle lit dinners in the privacy of your suite are not to be missed. In addition to the suites, there is Long Hope Villa, which dates back to the early 1900’s. This lovingly restored property has a remote position on the reserve, and offers an exclusive and private Safari experience. The villa boasts the original wooden floors and farmhouse doors, which capture the old-world charm. Accommodation is in three en-suite bedrooms, each with walk-in wardrobe and spacious charming bathroom – adding to the home-away-from-home appeal. You can relax in the open-plan lounge, furnished with comfy sofas, Satellite TV and DVD player, or enjoy a cocktail at the bar while your personal chef prepares delicious meals in the interactive kitchen, where you are encouraged to assist! Long Hope also offers al fresco dining – from a fabulous barbeques on a cool summer evening, or under the stars on the patio. Relax at the private swimming pool, set in an indigenous garden, with adjacent Sunset Deck - a wonderful retreat for a lazy afternoon, on the day beds or in the hammocks.

River Bend Lodge offers a variety of activities – from the more traditional game drives (conducted in Addo itself, or the private Intsomi Reserve), to game walks in the Intsomi Reserve, visits to the orchard on the neighbouring farm – where citrus fruit is grown in abundance. The Reserve is home to the Big Five, and the Lodge is actively involved in wildlife rehabilitation, in conjunction with National Parks, and currently there are wild dog and serval breeding programmes. The area is also a birders paradise, with over 300 species having been listed.
