The Metropole Hotel

At the Metropole Hotel, new meets old in Cape Town's hottest luxury boutique hotel. Situated in the heart of Cape Town, on bustling, legendary Long Street, the historic Metropole Hotel is warm and stylish.

This unique experience starts when you step into the foyer. The Hotel has retained the authentic feel of this gracious Victorian Building, but with contemporary luxury. The Metropole may boast the oldest lift in Cape Town, but everything else is the height of modern.

The plush, contemporary and recently renovated interior is modern and uncluttered, but at the same time intimate and personal. Tongue-in-cheek touches lift the spirit.

Special features in the 29 guest rooms, which occupy the two floors above the restaurant and bar area, include travertine marble bathrooms, balconies with views facing Long Street, and exceptional quality amenities, linen and towels. All rooms are also equipped with internet modem portholes, satellite television, digital safes and air-conditioning.

The Metropole's restaurant, Veranda, offers uninterrupted views of Long Street. The romantic interior utilizes clean lines, juxtaposed with contrasting colours, and the cuisine has been described as "comfort food with a twist". The menu is well balanced, hearty and unpretentious and consists of signature dishes such as smoked salmon trout with crème fraiche and caviar, duck bobotie, guinea fowl pie and beer battered hake and chips.

The M-Bar and Lounge are brightly decorated, with poppy-red walls, red ostrich leather chairs, dark wood panels and an exceptionally comfortable Versace fabric covered sofa. Comic wire bent figurines appear where heavy stuffed animal heads once hung. The reddish illumination and modern yet warm styling make for an intimate and decadent atmosphere without being overly pretentious.
