Half Day Robben Island

Walk to Freedom Tour

Ideally a Robben Island Tour may have more meaning, as an addition to the Cultural Township Experience Tour. The Robben Island visit is taken as part of a group tour, and includes a Ferry crossing from/ to the V&A waterfront and the Island itself. You receive a comprehensive guided tour of the Island, and its Prison facilities – generally conducted by a Guide was himself an inmate (political detainee) during the Apartheid Era.

The Tour consists of two separate experiences – with the first being a guided Bus Tour of the Island. This part of the experience gives a strong sense of the island's windswept, strangely forlorn environment and stops off at several historical landmarks. The second part of the experience is a walk through the maximum security prison buildings – whose most famous inhabitant was Nelson Mandela, who spent about 17 years on the Island. He was one of the many who spent their time in this infamous place.

Thereafter, you are free to wander around before making your way to the Harbour for your return Ferry journey to the Waterfront.
