Half Day Cultural Township experience
Although this is a HALF-DAY tour, it can be linked to an optional visit to Robben Island, in the afternoon or morning. Any understanding of present day conditions in South Africa is greatly enhanced by looking at the past, the legacy of the struggle to overcome the apartheid era and then the promise of reconstruction and development initiatives under way at present. On this Tour, you are introduced to “The Mother City”, learn about the past, and experience the present, and be introduced to the future. The Tour starts with a short City Tour, visiting the Bo-Kaap and picturesque Cape Malay Quarter. You will visit the District 6 Living Museum to learn more about the more than 60 000 Capetonian families that were forcibly removed from this once vibrant area between 1966 and 1982, because of Apartheid Policies. In the company of a local tour guide, head to the sprawling Cape Flats Townships. As hosts of local Community workers take a walk through a vibrant black community, with all its social strata. You will have the opportunity to meet the local people, witness their way of life, and learn about the different Cultures that make up these sprawling settlements. As you will learn, these informal Settlements are seeking their own solutions as an economic necessity. Against all odds, Township life prevails, in all its nuances. We will show you Cape Town from another dimension. As part of Eco-Tours many Community Initiatives, 25% of the Profits of this Tour get donated to social upliftment projects within the Townships.
