Buffelsdrift Oudtshoorn

Situated some 7 kilometres outside Oudtshoorn, the Lodge is in the heart of ostrich country, half-an-hour’s drive from the Swartberg Mountain Nature Reserve and the isolated valley of Gamkaskloof. The Lodge is on an extensive game far, in the Cango Valley. Lush succulent Karoo vegetation and a natural waterhole make this area home for a diverse collection of species, such as elephant, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, cape mountain zebra, and plains game. For the birder there are some 217 species in area.

Accommodation is tented – with each unit on a private wooden deck. There are a total of 25 tented units, 9 on the edge of a dam, and 16 set just a few metres back, but with excellent views of the dam, and surrounding mountains. All accommodation is en suite, and each boasts and outdoor shower, in addition to the indoor bathroom. Units are also air-conditioned, have a mini-bar, and tea/ coffee making facilities.

The Buffelsdrift Restaurant offers the choice of an à la carte or buffet menu, specialising in local Karoo cuisine – homemade preserves, chutney, pickles, along with fresh produce and herbs from the area as well as a variety of freshly baked oven bread. Guests can enjoy an open fire in winter, or alfresco in summer. The wine list is an excellent representation of South African wines and offers guests some of the best from the Route 62 wine farms.

A number of activities are offered at Buffelsdrift, such as open vehicle game drives, walks with the resident baby elephants (and a feeding experience), guided horse riding trails, and guided nature walks. In addition, you can learn more about the night sky, or enjoy a tranquil sun downer at the mountain viewpoint. For relaxation, and to cool off on the hot Karoo days, you can enjoy the use of a swimming pool.
