Table Mountain
Table Mountain is Cape Town's most famous landmark and one of the city's greatest attractions. There are over 100 scenic ways to climb the mountain, which stands at 1086 metres above sea level, but most people take the revolving cable car which whisks you to the top in a just a few minutes. The views in all directions are magnificent and the feeling of being on top of the world is what makes this such a popular destination.

Robben Island
Robben island is situated a mere 11km from Cape Town, in the middle of Table Bay, within clear sight of the city. It was on this island that Nelson Mandela was held prisoner for 18 years, much of it under hard labour. Prior to being a prison for political activists during the Apartheid era, the island was a leper colony. The island is now a museum and conservation area and was declared a World Heritage site in 1999.

Clifton 4th Beach
The four small beaches of Clifton are inter-linked by giant granite boulders and the trendy 4th beach is the busiest with beautiful people playing volleyball, frisbee, strolling or sunbathing. It is wonderfully sheltered here from the summer south-east wind but not many people actually brave the icy water.

Waterfront
The hugely successful Victoria & Alfred Waterfront complex has been developed around older wharves of the scenic Cape Town harbour. It is one of the most popular places to dine and stroll, day and night, and has the charm of a working harbour with seagulls and fur seals waiting for scraps from fishing boats, and tugs tied next to luxury yachts. Kirstenbosch
The beautiful world-renowned gardens of Kirstenbosch are situated on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain. Approximately 6 000 species of Southern Africa's flora are represented, particularly that of the Cape floral kingdom, known as fynbos. There is always something to see whatever the time of year, and you will come across some unusual features as you stroll through the gardens. There is a cycad bush in a cage, the last of its kind left in the world.

Cape Point
Cape Point is one of the greatest landmarks in the world: a wild and scenically spectacular area at the tip of the Cape Peninsula and African continent. It was here that the fearless Portuguese navigator Bartholomew Dias first rounded the Cape in 1488, and the large stone cross seen in the reserve, commemorates his achievement. Cape Point is situated in the Cape Peninsula National Park and brown and white bontebok antelopes, dawdling tortoises and dashing ostriches can be seen on a drive through the pristine nature reserve.

Canal Walk
One of Cape Town's newest attractions is Century City on the outskirts of the city. It is home to both the thrilling Ratanga Junction theme park and the Canal Walk shopping centre. Ratanga Junction features over 30 attractions, the most exciting being the Cobra roller coaster. There are plenty of tame rides for children and less adventurous adults.

Two Oceans Aquarium
Situated in the heart of Cape Town's Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, the Two Oceans Aquarium has much to offer as an educational and tourist venue. Specialising in the marine fauna and flora off the South African coastline, the aquarium boasts a large cold water kelp exhibit, complete with swell generator and a predator exhibit with five ragged tooth sharks, a variety of rays, two turtles and various pelagic fish.

Boulders Beach
Nestled in historic Simon's Town in South Africa, Boulders Penguin Colony is part of the Cape Peninsula National Park. Almost 3000 African (jackass) penguins, so called because their call resembles the bray of a donkey, reign supreme amidst rounded rocks and fish-filled False Bay. These endangered, flightless birds are free to roam the seas and return to their private haven - Foxy Beach at Boulders.
