Roggeland Country HouseRoggeland Country House is a guest house in the Dal Josaphat Valley, just outside of Paarl, which offers a warm welcoming and a tranquil base from which to explore this part of the Winelands. The manor house is an original 18th Century Cape Dutch masterpiece, and is a National Monument. The building still features the original yellowwood beams, reed ceilings and thatched roof. Whilst the décor includes antique furniture. In this part of the Cape visitors get to discover cheese factories, port and brandy cellars of distinction, excellent food, and scenic splendour. Roggeland Country House offers guests a choice of 6 superior or 4 standard rooms, allowing for the option of a large room with bath and freestanding shower or a smaller room with bath and shower combination. Each room is individually decorated, offering unique character and charm, and have either a large double or optional twin beds. The rooms all boast handmade linen, down duvets, ceiling fans, fresh flowers and handmade soaps. As part of the allowing guests to truly relax, there is no TV in the rooms. A highlight of a stay at Roggeland Country House is the cuisine. Enjoy a pre-dinner selection of wines to taste, served under the trees. The dining room, the manor house’s original kitchen, retains the original oven and fireplace which form part of the character and charm of the homestead. You will be delighted with the four course dinner, which is candle lit, and enhanced by a carefully selection of wines with each course. The menus are inspired by the seasonal local produce, with vegetables and herbs being grown in Roggeland’s own grounds. Although the area is renowned for its wine, there is an excellent variety of activities in the area, from golf, to bird watching at the local bird sanctuary, and scenic horse riding trails. Guests can also try their hand at fishing (and swimming!) in mountain pools, or canoe on the nearby Breede River. Or you might just wish to relax next to the pool, after visiting nearby rose farms. A walk through the town is also of interest, as Paarl is one of the country’s oldest towns, and has a number of historic buildings.
