Blue Gum Country EstateLocated outside of Stanford, just 20 kilometres beyond Hermanus, Blue Gum Country Estate offers peace and tranquillity. There are only 12 rooms at Blue Gum. You can choose from the 5 mountain facing suites, decorated in English country style, each with a fireplace, arm chairs and private patio. These spacious rooms each have a private patio, views of the mountains and access to the lawns in front of the rooms. In addition there are the 5 colonial African style suites, situated in the Manor House, with its own lounge, library and veranda. Each room has its own private veranda with commanding views of the valley. Then there is the Elephant Suite – complete with its own lounge area, large private deck from which to enjoy the impressive view, and the Honeymoon suite, with its own lounge area, private garden and fireplace. All of the rooms/ suites have a mini bar, satellite TV, and en suite bathrooms. Blue Gum offers a host of culinary delights – starting with breakfast in the sun room with magnificent views of peaceful fields and mountains. This is a substantial meal - stewed fruits, baked muesli, fresh muffins, selection of cheeses, cold meats, yoghurt and bacon and egg. Additionally there is a light lunch menu on offer, picnic lunches are provided on request to those setting out for the day, and in the afternoon, you can enjoy fresh scones in the conservatory. In the evening, gather round the Boma fire for sundowners, or enjoy cheese and biscuits in the privacy of your own suite. Dinner is served in the candlelit dining room, or on the deck overlooking the valley, with recommended wines, that compliment the food. Blue Gum has an imaginative cellar of great South African wines. Although there is plenty to do in the area, you might just choose to do nothing! The views across the valley, as you relax in the pool, might inspire you to new explorations in the coolness of the day, or you can just lie on the grass under one of the big trees. For the more energetic, there are beautiful walks, and mountain bikes are available. There is also horse riding – with a choice of the nearby beach or in the mountains of the estate. Blue Gum has exclusive access to a boat on the Stanford River, with morning and evening cruises on offer. Hermanus offers a host of water sports such as surfing, windsurfing, and sea kayaking, whilst Gansbaai is also excellent for whale watching, and is the place to go for Great White Shark diving. If you are looking for a more gentle pursuit, there are 7 wineries in the area.
