BlaauwboschBlaauwbosch is a discrete collection of thatch roofs in a crisp unspoiled landscape. Set in the heart of the Malaria free foothills of the Winterhoek mountain range in the Karoo. The Reserve offers a unique and private experience where guests can relax in comfort yet it is only 110 kilometres from Port Elizabeth. Blaauwbosch comprises of only seven luxurious thatched suites, which are spacious and have been designed as individual sanctuaries for the guest. All suites are air-conditioned and have their own dressing rooms, full bathrooms, personal bathrobes, verandas and mountain views. The colours of the Blaauwbosch lodge are earthy and muted, with the polished floors scattered with richly coloured carpets. For relaxation, and to cool off in the heat of the day, there is a swimming pool set under the shade of thorn trees. Enjoy a late, but substantial, breakfast after the early morning game drive. For dinner, the emphasis is one of African cuisine, but with contemporary flavours and an acknowledgement of universally appealing dishes. Guests are encouraged to venture beyond their familiar repertoire of tastes and match food with a fine selection of South African wines. Blaauwbosch’s wines come from the smaller estates ensuring that guests sample wine that they may not have experienced anywhere else. Although guests come to Blaauwbosch for more than just the game, this is still a focal point – with an excellent variety of species to see and learn about, such as lion, buffalo, elephant, leopard, rhino, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, antelope, abundant birdlife and rare flora. Cheetah have recently been released on the Reserve, and guests can participate in one of Blaauwbosch's specialties – a "walk and stalk" safari. This involves the shadowing of the cheetah, as it stalks its prey. Places of interest to visit in the area include Addo Elephant National Park, the historic town of Graff-Reinet, the Valley of Desolation, and Nieuw Bethesda with its famous Owl House.
