Augusta De Mist

This historic Cape Dutch Estate (established in 1802), is centrally situated in the charming town of Swellendam. It is named for the daughter of the then Commissary-General of the Cape. This is a small property with 3 Luxury cottages, 2 garden suites and 1 family unit, all set in 1,5 hectares of lush gardens, much of it indigenous, and an abundance of birdlife.

All accommodation at Augusta De Mist is individually decorated, and the cottages are all of different design from the spacious family suited, with 2 bedrooms (with shared bathroom), air-conditioning, TV, private patio, to the honeymoon suite, with private garden, lounge with fireplace, French windows opening to private patio. All of the cottages have private entrance, modern amenities, heaters, complementary Muscadel, fresh flowers, safe off street parking, and a stocked bar fridge.

There are spacious guest areas in and around the Manor house where one can relax and enjoy a drink in the lounge, on the patios or the veranda overlooking the gardens.

You can enjoy a delightful breakfast, which in summer is served under the vines and in front of the log fire in winter.

From November to April cheese platters and a fine selection of local wines are offered to enjoy in the comfort of your own room in front of a crackling fire, or on your private patio – something a little different if you don’t feel like dining at a restaurant.

For relaxation, there is a large salt water swimming pool in the grounds, and guests can also arrange a picnic basket for lunch on the property.

There is much of interest in the area, from the Drostdy Museum, reflecting the official history of the district. Bontebok National Park is home to the Cape Mountain Zebra, 126 bird species, exquisite flora and, of course, the Bontebok antelope. Marloth Nature Reserve is a botanist's dream with an abundance of flowers and Fynbos. De Hoop Nature Reserve is nearby, a unique reserve with 7 distinct ecosystems. The De Hoop vlei is a sanctuary for waterfowl and other birds. It is an excellent spot to view Southern Right whales from July to December.

You can also enjoy horse riding, mountain biking, and micro-lighting in the area.
